# Suggestions

> A structured suggestion system with voting, categories, AI-generated titles, and staff review.

The suggestions plugin creates a dedicated workflow for member feedback. Members submit suggestions through a slash command, the bot posts them as formatted messages in a designated channel with upvote and downvote reactions, and staff review and action them through the dashboard or slash commands.

## Submitting a suggestion

```text theme={null}
/suggest <content>
```

The member writes their suggestion text. The bot posts it in the configured suggestions channel with voting reactions already attached. If AI title generation is enabled, the bot also produces a concise summary title for the suggestion based on the content.

## Categories

Suggestions can be routed to different channels based on categories. Navigate to [**Suggestions > Categories**](https://bot.bifrost.gg/go/suggestions/categories) in the dashboard to create them.

Each category has:

| Setting | Description |
| - | - |
| **Name** | Displayed when a member picks a category |
| **Channel** | Where suggestions in this category are posted |
| **Voting style** | Upvote/downvote, star rating, or custom emoji reactions |
| **Who can suggest** | Restrict submission to specific roles |

When multiple categories exist, the member is prompted to pick one when running `/suggest`.

## Managing suggestions

```text theme={null}
/suggestion-config
/suggestion-categories list
/suggestion-categories create <name>
/suggestion-categories delete <id>
```

Staff manage individual suggestions through the dashboard under [**Suggestions > Suggestions**](https://bot.bifrost.gg/go/suggestions/list), or through context menu actions on the suggestion message.

Available actions on a suggestion:

| Action | Description |
| - | - |
| **Approve** | Mark the suggestion as accepted; bot adds a status badge to the message |
| **Reject** | Mark as rejected with an optional reason posted as a reply |
| **In progress** | Mark as being worked on |
| **Implemented** | Mark as completed |
| **Archive** | Remove from the active feed without deleting |

When a suggestion is actioned, the bot updates the original message to show the new status, keeping the voting results visible.

## Dashboard configuration

Navigate to [**Suggestions > Configuration**](https://bot.bifrost.gg/go/suggestions/config) to configure:

| Setting | Description |
| - | - |
| **Default channel** | Where suggestions go when no categories are defined |
| **Anonymous suggestions** | Post suggestions without showing the submitter's name |
| **Duplicate detection** | Warn the submitter if a similar suggestion already exists |
| **AI titles** | Automatically generate a short title from the suggestion text |
| **Min/max length** | Enforce character limits on submission content |

## Openers

Openers are buttons posted in a channel that members click to submit a suggestion through a modal form, without needing to type the `/suggest` command. Navigate to [**Suggestions > Openers**](https://bot.bifrost.gg/go/suggestions/openers) and click **New Opener**. Configure the button label and optional prompt text, then click **Post** to place the opener panel in a channel.

Openers are useful for keeping the suggestion workflow visible in a dedicated suggestions channel, or for servers where slash commands are restricted.

## Required permissions

| Action | Permission key |
| - | - |
| Submitting suggestions | `suggestions.create_suggestion` (default allow) |
| Viewing suggestions in the dashboard | `suggestions.items.view_suggestions` |
| Approving and rejecting suggestions | `suggestions.items.manage_suggestions` |
