# Permission keys

> Every permission key Heimdall recognises, exactly as it must be written.

## Copy keys exactly, never reconstruct them

A key has two or three parts:

category.action
category.subcategory.action
```

Most keys have three. `confessions.log.view_author` is not `confessions.view_author`, and
`tickets.operations.claim_tickets` is not `tickets.claim`. The middle segment is part of
the key, not a description of where it lives.

**A key that does not exist is silently refused.** Heimdall resolves an unrecognised key to
denied and records it in its log at info level. Nothing in the dashboard marks it as wrong,
so the only symptom is a role that appears configured and cannot use the feature. If a
permission you granted seems to do nothing, check the key against this page first.
