# Temporary Voice Channels

> Join-to-create temporary voice channels that delete themselves when empty.

The temporary voice channel system lets members create their own voice channels on demand. You designate one or more "creator" voice channels. When a member joins a creator channel, the bot immediately creates a new voice channel, moves the member into it, and deletes the channel automatically when the last member leaves.

This eliminates the need for administrators to manually create and delete voice channels for small groups and gives members control over their own spaces without granting them Manage Channels permissions.

## How it works for members

Join the creator voice channel (typically named something like "Create a channel" or "Join to create"). The bot creates a new channel named after you by default and moves you into it. You can then invite others to join. When everyone leaves, the bot deletes the channel.

While in your temporary channel, you have control over it through the `/tempvc` command.

## Setting up

Navigate to [**Temp VC > Configuration**](https://bot.bifrost.gg/go/tempvc/config) in the dashboard.

| **Creator channel** | The voice channel members join to trigger channel creation |
| **Category** | The category where new temporary channels are created |
| **Default name** | Template for new channel names. Supports `{user}` and `{count}` variables. |
| **Default user limit** | How many members can join new channels (0 = unlimited) |
| **Default bitrate** | Audio quality of new channels |
| **Permitted roles** | Which roles can use the creator channel (leave empty for all members) |

You can have multiple creator channels with different settings.

| - | - |
| `create` | Manually create a temporary channel (without joining the creator channel) |
| `delete` | Delete your current temporary channel immediately |
| `delete-all` | Delete all temporary channels you own |

Members can also rename, set a user limit, or lock their temporary channel using the Discord voice channel context menu, provided the bot has granted them the appropriate permissions.

## Viewing active channels

Navigate to [**Temp VC > Active Channels**](https://bot.bifrost.gg/go/tempvc/active) in the dashboard to see all currently active temporary channels - who created them, how many members are in them, and how long they have been active.
