Members submit a confession and the bot posts it with its own number and no author. Confessions are anonymous to other members. They are not anonymous to staff holding the right permission, and that limit is stated to members on the submit panel so nobody is misled.

Setting it up

The submit panel

Posting a panel gives members a Submit a confession! button, so they do not need to know the command. Posting it again in the same channel updates that message rather than adding a second one. Posting it in another channel adds a copy there, and every copy is listed when you post the panel (see Panels posted in more than one channel). Both routes open the same box and behave identically.

Who can see who wrote a confession

Other members never find out. There is no name, no avatar, and nothing in the posted message that points back to the author. Staff are a different matter. Anyone holding confessions.log.view_author can look up who submitted a confession in , and the bot records every lookup. That is deliberate: an untraceable way to post into your server is a harassment vector with no remedy except switching the feature off, and blocking somebody requires knowing who they are. Forget who wrote a confession after (days) decides how long that stays possible. Leave it at 0 to keep the information indefinitely. Any other number tells the bot to forget the author once a confession reaches that age. The confession itself stays, but from then on nobody can find out who posted it, including you.

Handling abuse

@everyone and @here inside a confession are defused, so they read as written but ping nobody. Formatting is escaped as well, so a confession cannot post a full-width heading or a link dressed up as something the bot said.

Required permissions

The config keys deliberately do not grant the log. Setting a channel and a cooldown is administrative work; reading what your members confessed is the private part, and being trusted with one is not the same as being trusted with the other.
